Weekend public safety update

The following incidents were reported by law enforcement from Friday through early Monday:

A woman reported she as raped Friday by her ex-boyfriend.

The 28-year old victim told police she was staying in the 2000 block of Reaches Place because she did not want to get snowed in at her home.

Sometime during the night the boyfriend, who was also staying at the address, sexually assaulted the woman.

No arrests were reported. Police withheld the name of the victim.


A man is recovering after being shot by his girlfriend Saturday night.

Police said Godwin Odoemelan got into a fight with the woman at 8:00 in the 4700 block of Cutler Drive.

During the fight the woman pulled a gun and shot Odoemelan.

He was taken to Huntsville Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been reported and police withheld the woman's name.


A man was stabbed by a woman early Sunday.

Brett Banks said a woman, identified by police as Jalanea Rhodes, became angry with him and stabbed him in the arm shortly before 5:00 in the 3000 block of Woodway Pines.

Banks suffered non-life threatening injuries.

No arrests were reported.

A man was arrested Sunday morning after he tried to rob a Starbucks but wound up with a cop of coffee instead.
Police said Phillip Sawdey went to the restaurant on Airport Road around 8:00 and demanded a clerk give him all the money.
The clerk replied she could not get into the cash drawer but said she would give him coffee if he wanted.
Sawdey took the clerk up on her offer and left the store with the drink.
Employees notified police who promptly arrested Sawtey in the parking lot.
He was charged with robbery.
Police did not say what type of coffee Sawtey left with.
