UPDATE: Motorcyclist killed in early morning crash identified

A man who died when his motorcycle crashed into a semi early Friday has been identified.

Police said Charles Burlingame, 36, of Huntsville, was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision on Highway 72 atop Chapman Mountain.

Police said Burlingame was eastbound at a high rate of speed when he collided with the rear of the eastbound truck.

No other information was released.

A motorcyclist died after his bike struck the rear of a tractor trailer early Friday, police said.

The cyclist was eastbound on Highway 72 when he collided with the semi, which was also eastbound, near the intersection of Epworth Drive atop Chapman Mountain.

The crash happened just before 2:30 a.m.

The victim name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
