Madison officer hospitalized, charged with DUI after weekend crash

By Print Preview

A Madison police officer is recovering and facing charges after crashing his personal vehicle earlier this month.

Officer Efrem Adams lost control of his car on Old Railroad Bed Road around 11:15 p.m. on Feb. 12, department spokesman Lt. John Stringer said in a statement.

The vehicle flipped several times. The accident was investigated by state troopers and their investigation indicated Adams was under the influence at the time of the wreck.

Adams has been charged with DUI.

In the statement Chief Larry Muncey said, “I thank God that Efrem is going to be okay, he is a fine man, great father and a good police officer; unfortunately, if the allegations are true, his decisions will have a significant impact on his career. The Madison City Police Department is comprised of professional and dedicated officers, with tenacious desire to serve, and the citizens of Madison deserve nothing less. A complete and objective internal inquiry will be made into the circumstances surrounding the crash, once Efrem has been released from the hospital. Appropriate actions will be taken at that time if warranted.”
