A man escaped serious injuries after he drove his vehicle onto the railroad tracks near the County Line Road overpass Thursday afternoon. According to HEMSI Director of Operations Don Webster and information from the scene the man, whose name was not released, drove his minivan off County Line Road around 1:30 p.m.

He then drove through a field and down an embankment before coming to rest across the tracks. The crew of a Norfolk Southern train heading west was able to spot the vehicle and stop in time to avoid hitting it.

Webster said the man, who was taken to Huntsville Hospital complaining of chest pains, was thought to be the same person who earlier had threatened to kill himself.
