The Huntsville Police Department has named a retired Army Warrant Officer as its new Communications Relations Officer.

Dr. Harry L. Hobbs was introduced to area media representatives Wednesday afternoon.

Hobbs is a retired Missile Systems Chief Warrant Officer Five with nearly 30 years active duty service. His duties will include serving as liaison between the news media and the city's emergency services.

Hobbs will also engage in community relations functions, according to HPD Chief Mark Hudson.

Hobbs holds a doctorate in HR Management from Western Pacific University and a Masters in Human Services from Murray State. He is currently an adjunct professor for the Florida Institute of Technology at Huntsville.

He and his wife Erica most recently resided in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The couple have two grown children.

Hobbs replaces former police spokesman Wendell Johnson, who retired last year.

Sgt. Mark Roberts had been acting as temporary  spokesman during the interim.
