Police investigating shooting death of man late Wednesday

An Athens man who was shot late Wednesday died early Thursday morning and police re calling the death a homicide.

According to HPD spokesman Sgt. Mark Roberts, Michael A. Scarberry, 28, of Athens was in the front yard of a home in the 3500 block of South Broad Street in southwest Huntsville when he was shot once on the chest around 10 p.m.

Scarberry was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment but died about 5:30 a.m.

Roberts told HNW investigators have no witnesses or suspects in the case. It was also unknown whether Scarberry's assailant fired from a vehicle or while on foot.

Scarberry did not live at the home, said Roberts.
