Madison County sheriff deputies have arrested a man in connection with a home invasion that left the occupant with critical injuries early Friday.
According to a release from MCSO Investigator Chad Brooks, deputies were dispatched to 171 Garden Way shortly after midnight in response to a 911 call.
Upon their arrival deputies found homeowner Phillip Stephens, 55, suffering from severe cuts to his head.
Stephens told deputies he was attacked and struck with a blunt object after waking up and discovering a man burglarizing his home.
Stephens was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment but was able to identify his attacker as a man who had previously done work for him in his home.
Sometime later in the morning deputies, assisted by other agencies, arrested Corey Cortez Battle, 32, of Huntsville.
Brooks told HNW Battle was arrested at a friend's house on Winchester Road.
Battle is currently housed in the Huntsville-Madison County Jail on charges of robbery and attempted murder. His bond has been set at $90,000.
Stephens was listed in serious condition, according to the release.
